The Downbad Marsh is a marshy section of wetlands in Holly Shores. It consists largely of vernal pools, also called vernal ponds or ephemeral pools. A lot of big words there but essentially these are seasonal pools of water that provide a habitat for a distinctive set of plants and animals. They are usually devoid of fish, and thus allow the safe development of natal amphibian and insect species that are typically unable to withstand predation by fish. In other words, lots of freaky stuff grew up here because there be no fishies in this here marsh. But what it does have is a very particular set of frogs; frogs that grew up here over a very long time period. Frogs that make this marsh a nightmare for people like you. If you turn around now that'll be the end of it. They will not look for you, they will not pursue you, but if you don't, they will look for you, they will find you, and they will kill you.

Other flora and fauna

One of the most notable inhabitants of the Downbad Marsh is the elusive Swampland Shimmerbug. This creature is known for its shimmering, iridescent wings and its ability to disappear into thin air. It feeds on the nectar of the marsh's rare and exotic flowers, and can often be spotted darting through the foggy air.

Another strange inhabitant of the Downbad Marsh is the Marshmallow Manatee. This lumbering, slow-moving creature is covered in fluffy, white fur and has a seemingly insatiable appetite for marshmallows. It is a gentle creature, but can be dangerous if provoked. In the depths of the vernal pools lurk the deadly Marsh Wigglers. These slender, eel-like creatures have razor-sharp teeth and a voracious appetite. They are known to attack anything that enters their territory, and have been known to drag unwary travelers to their watery graves.

The Downbad Marsh is also home to a variety of strange and exotic plants, such as the Luminescent Water Lily, which glows a faint blue at night, and the Poison Ivy Tree, which is covered in deadly, venomous ivy. Despite its dangerous inhabitants, the Downbad Marsh remains a popular destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. But beware, for those who venture into its murky waters may never return.
